Studies by Sagamore researchers show that the state’s economic future depends on attracting highly educated immigrants. Sagamore’s study of Indiana-Mexican economic connections led to several further studies of the economic impact on Indiana of immigrants from Mexico and Latin America. Sagamore has worked on immigration issues with some of the state’s leading university-based research institutes such as Notre Dame’s Institute for Latino Studies, Center for Intercultural Teaching and Learning at Goshen College, Indiana University’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Starting in 2008 Sagamore helped found a statewide Multiethnic Indiana committee, consisting of representatives from universities and nonprofits, state and local governments, businesses and ethnic associations.
