Indiana is an incubator of global citizen-to-citizen interactions. One may not necessarily expect great innovation in foreign aid to come from the Midwest, yet Hoosiers are engaging in inventive aid efforts.

Sagamore's most recent initiative is the Bradley Commission on Africa, a joint effort between Sagamore Institute and The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation that is working to mobilize African and American leaders to encourage development in sub-Saharan Africa. As part of the Commission, Sagamore has created the Indiana-Africa Connections Project, a database of individuals and organizations in the state that are connected to Africa through various mediums including volunteerism and business.

Through this research we have discovered that Indiana has an incredible community of innovative and compassionate individuals who are doing extraordinary work in Africa. From the IU-Kenya partnership to the Bryantsville Hunger Relief Project, the state has an enormous unofficial community devoted to Africa, and we now hope to shine a spotlight on this community. 

Additionally, 20 years ago, Indiana University formed a partnership with the Moi University School of Medicine in Eldoret Kenya. This collaboration has led to one of the most effective programs for treating HIV/AIDS in Africa. It also has generated hundreds of personal and professional connections between Indianapolis and Eldoret.
