Sagamore’s study of Indiana-Mexican economic connections led to several further studies of the economic impact on Indiana of immigrants from Mexico and Latin America. Several of these studies have helped clarify what is at stake for the state’s economy as legislators have considered legislation that would penalize undocumented immigrants.

• John Clark, Ten Principles for Clear and Innovative Thinking about Immigration in Indiana — Policy recommendations for Indiana’s community, civic, business and political leaders as they grapple with immigration. Discussion of local-to-local partnerships, changing attitudes toward immigration, and using immigration from Mexico to strengthen democracy in Mexico and Indiana.
• John Clark, Report on the Challenges of Obtaining an Indiana Driver’s License — SIPR’s contribution includes a model for calculating the economic impact of driving certificates for undocumented immigrants. Costs would be expected to go down as a result of a decrease in the number of uninsured drivers.
