Levey Mansion Tour

The Levey Mansion sits at the corner of 29th and Meridian Streets

Indianapolis printer Louis Levey built the mansion between 1905 and 1906

During the life of Mrs. Meta Levey, the mansion was a vibrant social gathering place

The mansion features large pocket windows that lead out onto a terrace

A balustraded terrace looks out over 29th Street

Wonderfully restored now, the mansion fell into disrepair after the death of Mrs. Levey

The Indianapolis Medical Society took over the home in 1958

Pilgrim Life Insurance bought the mansion for $125,000 in 1975

Prominent elements of the Italian Renaissance Revival decorate the mansion

The mansion features Beaux Arts architecture, both eclectic and classical in style

Louis Levey was born in 1856 and died in 1934

Levey was neighbors with Charles Fairbanks, Vice President to Teddy Roosevelt

The stairwell leads from the foyer into the Great Room, formerly the Music Room

Scrolled wrought iron was used to create the balustrade of the main staircase

The ornate stained glass ceiling sits above the staircase

A light above the glass allows visitors to see the stained colors even at night

The onyx and ormolu fireplace was imported from a European palace

Painted leaves decorate the dining room ceiling

Heavily carved millwork decorates this mahogany pilaster

The original chandeliers grace the Levey dining room
