Here are a few of our recommended resources on generous giving:
Barbara Elliott's Street Saints Guide:
Researcher Barbara Elliott has seen the importance of these principles as she has studied vulnerable communities to learn what strategies and organizations have been effective in bringing about genuine transformation. She has found that some of the most effective groups are small, grassroots, and sometimes “off the radar screen” of major foundations. Individual donors do well to consider supporting these “street saints.” Elliott’s Equipping the Street Saints: A Guide to Giving to Faith-based Organizations helps donors better understand these ministries and provides advice on how to assess and partner with them.
The Samaritan Awards

For several years the Acton Institute operated an annual awards program called The Samaritan Awards. Although no longer in operation, the program’s archived website provides information on the judging criteria and examples of past winners. These can help donors know what to be looking for in an effective nonprofit.
Charity Navigator
Charity Navigator is a large, online resource that offers ratings of nonprofits and advice for intelligent giving.
Ron Blue's Generous Living
Ron Blue’s book Generous Living is an excellent resource for Christians looking for practical Biblical teaching on giving.
Generous Giving
Generous Giving is a national association encouraging Christians of means to live wisely and generously. Its annual conference offers opportunities for donors to meet together to dig more deeply into the scriptures to grow in understanding God’s heart for generosity and to learn from one another about effective giving.
