Health care reform has dominated the headlines for the past year. But many Americans wonder if what is happening in Washington will bring about real and positive change in waiting rooms and pharmacy lines across the country.
Meanwhile the state of Indiana provides a stark contrast to public conversations disconnected from day-to-day realities. Opposite the national media interest in ideology, Indiana is a leading laboratory of health care innovation and best practices. Boasting a $69 billion health industry, Indiana has gained a reputation as a leader in biopharmaceuticals and medical ingenuity.
On February 19, 2010, Sagamore Institute and Indiana Wesleyan University brought together a stellar roster of leading health care professionals to discuss ways that Hoosiers are making the system more affordable and accessible through actual cost controls and continued growth in innovation. Among the panel, Bart Peterson (former Indianapolis mayor and current Senior Vice President, Lilly Corporation), Craig Brater, M.D. (Dean, Indiana University School of Medicine), Matthew Gutwein (President and CEO, Health and Hospital Corporation of Marian County), and Stephen Jordan (Senior Vice President, United States Chamber of Commerce).
