Hailed by The Chronicle of Higher Education as “one of the best literary journalists in the country,” John J. Miller author of the new hit The Big Scrum: How Teddy Roosevelt Saved Football, made a guest appearance at Sagamore on July 13, for the first President's Circle event.
The Big Scrum tells the story of Roosevelt’s persistent influence in the earliest days of the game’s existence.
A Detroit native, Miller has authored several works—including The First Assassin, a Civil War era historical thriller focused on Abraham Lincoln’s untimely death, and Our Oldest Enemy: A History of America’s Disastrous Relationship with France. He currently writes for the Wall Street Journal and National Review and this fall will assume the post of director of the Herbert H. Dow II Journalism Program at Hillsdale College in Michigan.
The event was the second in a series that Sagamore has hosted in anticipation of Indianapolis’ role hosting Super Bowl 2012 and in recognition of the city’s rich legacy as a leader in sports and civic responsibility. Previously, Sagamore teamed up with Channel 20 WFYI to produce the 30-minute documentary More Than a Game: The Indy Super Bowl Legacy.
