A Community Conversation: Renewing Elkhart

In tandem with its third annual Back 2 School festival, the town of Elkhart, Indiana welcomed Sagamore Institute and the Office Depot Foundation to lead a community conversation on “The Value of Volunteerism.” Host Rod Roberson, founder of Back 2 School Elkhart, joined Sagamore’s Jay Hein and Mary Wong of Office Depot Foundation to discuss the impact of Elkhart’s nonprofit sector in helping to restore the community.

Elkhart, the “RV Capital of the World”—was one of the worst-struck US towns during the recession of 2009. It’s 20 percent unemployment rate made it the worst-hit community in the nation, yet its rise has been equally remarkable.
