Local Organizations Educating the Public about Lincoln

 

Hoosiers are fortunate that several institutions are eager to help provide as much information about Abraham Lincoln as you can imagine. As mentioned above, the Indiana State Museum will be the place to be on February 12, 2010, when the Museum unveils its double major exhibits. You shouldn’t wait until then to visit the Museum, which is leading the way among America’s state museums in making history relevant to the citizens of today.

The Indiana Historical Society has had to take down its award-winning Lincoln exhibits as the Historical Center is being renovated … but that means the curators and archivists are even more willing to talk about Lincoln, and perhaps to provide informal tours of their papers and photographs.

When you travel beyond the collections of Lincoln artifacts in Indianapolis, go Spencer County, where Lincoln grew up and where many important sites are located. One of the most important is the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. The Indiana Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission has the mission of celebrating the country’s greatest President’s Hoosier roots: the Commission’s website aspires to capture every Lincoln-related event around the state.
